I really really liked "The Morning Gift". Maybe even more than "The Secret Countess". I liked the fact that the romance was more "on-stage" in this one, but then again, the fairy-tale quality of TSC was just enchanting. Hmm... I will have to think about it more. I'm actually glad I didn't read the two too close together though, if that makes sense - they may have been too much of a good thing if I'd read them one after the other.

Re the American/British editions, it's not often they're in the same store, but it happens. This was in a specialist store, and I think they order directly the new releases directly from the States because they come out earlier there. The UK version isn't meant to be out until next month, I believe, but they must have accidentally put it out as well. I wonder if their profit margins are better on US imports or UK editions, actually.

Ahh! I loved The Morning Gift too. Ruth is so lovable, and Quin! I think you're right that some of Ibbotson's books are semi-autobiographical -- this one and Song for Summer are all about people having to flee to England during WWII. I've got Madensky Square in the TBR, but I'm saving it for a rainy day.

And you say that you can get American editions in England? I'm really surprised by that. You'd think the British imprints wouldn't want the competition. Does it happen often? I'm actually in the middle of Mine Till Midnight now and enjoying it. Though I always just like Kleypas books, and never really love them. :)
