I love books. I’ve read ever since I was a kid of two, and can’t imagine a life without books.
This blog is where I post book-related stuff - new releases that I’m anticipating, books I’ve bought and read, the occasional review, bits and bobs related to my favourite authors, etc. I update a couple of times a week, usually on weekends!
What do I read? If I look at my reads over the past year, there’s a lot of romance, fantasy, mystery, some SF - if it’s not a straight romance, it’s likely there’s a generous sprinkling of romance throughout. Within those genres, anything goes really - oh, YA books included.
I live in London, UK, so I’m lucky enough to have big bookstores on my doorstep(-ish). However, I’m a massive fan of Amazon UK - goodness knows how I managed before the internet!
At the moment, I list books that I’ve read each month on my sidebar. I say at the moment, because it’s not a great way of tracking my reading - I need a better method! I use a grading system for books I read:
A - Definite keeper. One which I will wholeheartedly recommend and re-read, over and over again.
B - Good read, well worth the time. I’ve no regrets about buying the book.
C - So-so. Read if you have time and if the storyline interests you. I probably wouldn’t buy the book again, if given the chance.
D - Don’t bother. Not unless you’re a huge huge fan of the author and must read every single title he/she publishes.
DNF - Did not finish. Self-explanatory really. I just didn’t think it was worth finishing.
It’s not always that straightforward though - some books are, say, a borderline B- ”Yes, I’d buy again” or a C+ “No, I needn’t have bought this book”. It’s a hard call sometimes, and I’d re-emphasise, this is just my opinion, which is completely subjective and depends on many other factors, e.g. my mood, what other books I was reading at the time, etc.
I’m really using the grades as an indicator of how much I enjoyed the book, so that I can look back at my reading year in December. If you want to know more about a particular book, or why I graded it the way I did, feel free to post a comment.
