I haven’t been buying much at Fictionwise recently – a combination of my Buywise Club membership expiring (one of those annual subscription things giving you additional discounts) and those pesky geographical restrictions appearing on quite a few books I was interested in.
However, they’ve been having some massive offers recently and I finally caved in. Not [...]

Thea and Ana at The Book Smugglers have kicked off their annual Smugglivus extravaganza with guest posts and giveaways galore. It’s only the first week and they’ve already had some very interesting posts. I can’t wait to see what else they have planned for the rest of the month.
Speaking of which, two more working [...]
Books for October
Posted in Coming soon, Juliet Marillier, Kelley Armstrong, Laurell K Hamilton, Sharon Shinn on October 12, 2009 | 7 Comments »
A bit late with this post, but September had so many releases I wanted – I’m determinedly not thinking of the number of books I added to my TBR pile last month. And October is shaping up to be just as good.
First up, Sharon Shinn is flooding the New Releases shelf – I’m not [...]

A couple of quickies – new author sites and updates:
Juliet Marillier has relaunched her website. I’m finding it slightly graphics-heavy, but it looks good. There’s a RSS feed for news updates which is always useful. She talks about her website redesign on Writers Unboxed – it’s pretty interesting stuff.
Mercedes Lackey has a Facebook page (and [...]

*happy dance* Juliet Marillier has sold two more books in the Sevenwaters series! “Song of the Island” will be published in 2011 (via Writers Unboxed). While that feels like ages away at the moment, I’m thrilled that there will be more Sevenwaters.
And via Historical Tapestry, check out the graphic novel version of Pride & Prejudice [...]

And the end is in sight! I may actually finish my 2008 Review posts before the end of January.
October
I was on holiday for most of October, which explains the massive total of 20 books read during this month.
I had never quite managed to understand why Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files series (urban fantasy) was so popular, [...]
Juliet Marillier’s “Heir to Sevenwaters”

Juliet Marillier’s “Heir to Sevenwaters” would probably have made it into my favourites of 2008 if Amazon had delivered the book a day or so earlier. After finally getting around to reading “Daughter of the Forest”, and following it with “Son of the Shadows” and “Child of the Prophecy” (which easily claims the Best [...]
If You Like…

Juliet Marillier, whose books would you enjoy as well? I was thinking about this on and off throughout the day, which probably shows how much I loved Ms Marillier’s “Daughter of the Forest”.
Sharon Shinn is the obvious pick, because romantic fantasy is the perfect description for the books both of them write. However, I’m not [...]
