Another set of links, old and new:
- Jo Beverley discusses peerage titles @ Word Wenches. One unexpected benefit of my Regency romance reading past is that I am actually quite familiar with title conventions when it comes to the English peerage (not quite Mastermind level, but enough to know when it’s wrong). As it’s not exactly rocket science, I’m not sure why various authors still get it wrong.
* Kind of content-free, but I couldn’t resist: Josh Lanyon posts the Japanese cover of FAIR FAME. I like.
*- Locus Mag publishes its (very long) list of 2012 SF/F recommended reads. I’ve read two from the SF list (the Bujold and James SA Corey’s CALIBAN’S WAR), one from the fantasy list (Ben Aaronovitch’s WHISPERS UNDER GROUND), and four from its YA list (Rae Carson’s THE CROWN OF EMBERS, Kristin Cashore’s BITTERBLUE, Justine Larbalestier & Sarah Rees Brennan’s TEAM HUMAN, and Laini Taylor’s DAYS OF BLOOD & STARLIGHT). I mostly enjoyed all of them, so I’m bookmarking the list for future reference.
* - Greg Manchess talks about his artwork for Robin Maxwell‘s JANE @ Muddy Colors (it’s a retelling of Tarzan, from what I gather). The eventual decision was to go for a different cover artist and style, so there’s an interesting discussion in the comments around whether the marketing decision was the right one. I’m leaning towards the side of yes – I liked Greg Manchess’s cover but the old-school vibe probably wouldn’t have pulled me in, while the second cover (also in the post) would have had me taking a second look.
* - George RR Martin posts the table of contents for his DANGEROUS WOMEN anthology (co-edited with Gardner Dozois). Familiar names include Carrie Vaughn, Jim Butcher, Brandon Sanderson, and Diana Gabaldon, so very much on my to-read list.
* - Sharon Lee & Steve Miller have a free short story up at the Baen site, “Eleutherios” – it’s to promote their new release, NECESSITY’S CHILD.
